New Job, New endeavors

After being a waitress for over a decade, I'm trying out a new gig.  I'll be working as a sales associate at one of my favorite places to shop ever.  I'm extremely nervous about working in such a tempting environment.  I'm also helping style That Girl Em for her weekly party, Tiger Beats.  I like how I'm dressing her, but eventually I'd like to take some more risks.  So here's a few pics:

Tove Jansson and Per Emanuelsson chain shoes.  I would dress Em in these shoes with a cutout one piece in a neon color.  Of course either she or her feet would hate me after!

That Girl Em in a detachable pearl and bow necklace from yesstyle.com, Kenneth Jay Lane necklace, J Crew bandeau swimsuit top, Topshop tank, her own shoes, leggings, and shorts

some random knee high socks I had, pink Chuck's that you can't see (her own), hello kitty tank top from of all places Hot Topic LOL!, and an urban outfitters faux leather skirt

Why I Hate My Cat, Vishnu

He'll try to kill anything that moves. Feet under a blanket. Attack! String hanging from a hoodie. Attack! Piece of trash blowing in the wind. Attack!

Critter in a cage. Attempted attack!

The latter is what I hate the most about Vishnu. I can't have any other pets. I've tried. Former roommates have tried. He gave Taterpuff Jr, a nice little mouse, a heart attack. He nearly burnt down my apartment after knocking over the heat lamp for my roommate's bearded dragon.

I know I should just deal with this companion of mine that will probably live for at least another 10 years but I have a lingering passion that Vishnu just wont let me indulge in...

I love rats.

I grew up with them as pets. My best friend has like 6. They're my favorite animal.

Don't get grossed out. Geeze.

The taboo that rats are plague carrying vermin and filthy creatures to shriek at the sight of makes me mad. Seriously, I'm not going to grab one off the streets and call it my own. That is gross and dangerous. There is a science to choosing the proper rat. And once you have one you will scoff at all other pets.

I bet you didn't know that they are extremely cleanly animals. They can be trained to do all sorts of cool stuff. Think of any trick you can teach a dog and you can train a rat to do it. I've seen a rat and dog become best friends. They napped together, cleaned each other. It was damn cute.

In India they worship them. There is a temple that is dedicated to them. The worshippers drink out of the same milk bowl that hundreds of thousands of rats drink from daily. I'm not that into rats. But that's a fun little fact.

If you don't have a crazy street cat like Vishnu, I highly suggest getting a pet rat. You won't regret it. Promise. If you don't believe me about how amazing these critters are, check it out here for more information.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving (and it's not herpes)

SMILE!

I find that when I walk down the street with a smile people smile back then smile to the next. Don't look sad. Your frown lines are ugly. Put on a grin. Please.

It will brighten someone's day. A little "nice shirt" or "i'd hit that" doesn't hurt either. Well, the latter might get you slapped. Forget that one. Spread the love, people. It could make the difference and will always put a little extra pep in your step. Even after your morning tea with a shot of whisky.

I'm not asking for teeth. Here, I'll show you how....

Back Door Man

Just a little question.... how many songs can you think of that make a "back door man" reference?

I'm at 4 without thinking.

Business Sure is Risky

A couple months ago we posted an interview with MomTried Myles. For the month of March, she has a pop up gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Right there on the corner of Manhattan and Box in Greenpoint. She's got some artwork up for sale. I'm running the shop (conveniently named, BusinessIsRisky) for a couple days. Good times.

Check it.

Nude for Thought

Why is it frowned upon to be naked in public?

We all have the same parts. Some of us larger or smaller than others. But I don't get why it's something to be embarrassed of. Or something to keep hidden.

Let's take off our pants and dance in all our nakie glory.

I want to be able to go to any beach in the states and not have tan lines. I want to be able to go to the convenience store and buy my cigarettes in the buff. Well, in the summer at least.

Shirt
Pants
No Service

Let's start small. Have a national naked day. One where we won't have to fear arrest because we left our spanks and tees at home. A day to break in the idea. O and no pointing and laughing. No judging. Please.

I will start the naked revolution

Craftypants Philly

We came, we saw, we photographed and "drank beer."  Well two of us did and one of us can't.  F*ck Heineken!  That was not an endorsement for PBR.  Although we saw some pretty cool PBR inspired chotskies and talked to some cool people!  We're really excited to take part in a Twin Peaks party coming up soon...Schmootzie is going to relive being molested by Bob in his worst nightmares!  Take a peek!!!  More pictures after the jump...

Rat-A-Fake-Tat

Ever since I was a little zombie, I envied those with tattoos.  I wanted to be covered. I wanted a boy (or girl) that was covered. They were daring. Sexy. Offensive.

Now, everyone has one or tons. I'm a rare breed to not have any.

I bet you 10 bucks that girl you checked out at the grocery has a butterfly on her somewhere.

Even people who don't have the cliches and have real artwork don't seem all that special to me anymore. Tattoos have lost their shimmer to me. I respect and adore good tattoos, don't get me wrong. I'm into the culture. If you're seriously covered I seriously respect that. But their appeal came to me in taboo. Now they are just something to look at. Art. Nothing to hide from your parents. They probably have some too.

Over the past several years I have been watching this transition occur. Movie stars flashing their tats on the red carpet. Whole clothing lines using flash as their inspiration. I just stumbled across the worst of it. Coming soon to a Chanel near you: temporary tattoos

In case you're too pussy to get a real one, this washes off in a few days

If you were wondering... I still choose boys and girls with tats over the clean skinned folk. It's sexy. I can't blame pop culture and fashion for picking up on that
