African Hip-Hop gets Zeffed up? The Crumbville Times:

The Crumbville Times:

Hip-Hop music is certainly respected world-wide, from Russia, to Japan, to Australia to basically everywhere else (seriously) there are beats and lyricists galore.  We zombies aren't exactly annoyed by this, in fact we have Canadian, British, American (and Asian-Asiafile? wtf?) voices going into our posts so...  Its good to always have at least the beats rhymes and our lives to talk about.  Right?  Well, we have that and of course discussing zombie life...  That gets boring though. The music stuff is much better.

Anyway, a couple weeks ago I came across a link (provided by 바나나) to a video by a South African group called Die Antwoord (or "The Answer" in Afrikaans) called Enter the Ninja.

We were quite interested almost immediately and did what we could to contact them directly.  We are still waiting for their response which may or may not come.  Our curiosity is shared to say the least.  Nearly everybody seems to have it up on their facebook, or have seen this video on their friend's post, and they are jumping up in magazines with mixed reviews.  Vice interviewed them (pretty funny) and NME did not exactly give them respect.

Apparently they are fake, and their lead rapper has tried this same thing a few times before.  Either way, the song is pretty catchy so maybe no one should care.  A lot of people are saying they don't.  At the end of the day its a lot of buzz, which is exactly what they wanted isn't it?..  Not too bad for a song that came out only a few months ago.  In researching this piece I also found this video featured in the bb article about them.  I think its funny.  I have no idea where its from or who it is and can't be bothered to look that up right now.  If its somehow offensive (I don't speak the language they use) all apologies!

Back on topic:  Basically, folks all over the world have certainly noticed Die Antwoord.  Their story is pretty interesting, fake or not, to say the least.  We may be hearing back from them soon regarding some of our interests, but until then I will say one thing:  Bravo Die Antwoord!  Sort of...   Not only have you mashed up a Garage U.K. style backdrop, with plain ol' pop, you've thrown in a tiny bit of politics and you're (perhaps) a big lie.  You are playing on the ignorance of the rest of the world to the scene where you are from, making solid hits, and (from what I've read) getting some local props for doing so.  I like this, I think.  But is this buzz going to backfire pretty bad?  Probably not, but it could be a one trick poney sort of scenario for Die Antwoord, with nothing they do after this having the same impact.  Anyhow, I really hope we hear back from them, after saying what I have I kind of doubt we will though ;P  Its not hate!  Its just the facts ma'am!  Again I hope they get back to us, if you know them have'em scribe us zombies, we'll give you a cookie.  Otherwise, this story is a dead puppy.  I'll email a friend in S. Africa to see if I can get a little more information on the local opinion of them perhaps, but that's all that's it!
