Crumbville Times Sunday Edition...

Every Sunday..  We hope you like it.

Andre Saraiva x Fendi

Fendi commissioned Parisian graffiti artist, Andre Saraiva, to design some bags.  Found this image at Vogue Korea.  It's some fun stuff for Art Basel from my understanding.  It was part limited edition, part exhibition part interactive.  Basically Andre has done things for Louis Vuitton down to Belvedere Vodka.  Remember, the Louis Vuitton and Stephen Sprouse collabo?

I guess Fendi is following the lead and jumping on the LV bandwagon of hiring graffiti artists.  LV is the same house that hired Kanye West to design shit too. (Keep in mind that Marc Jacobs is the creative director for LV).

I wonder what these Fendi bags went for, but if Andre is a special artist to you I suppose it would be worth it.  As far as the Stephen Sprouse stuff, I look at it now and am unimpressed.  Who is this really for?  Rich people?  Celebrities?  It has this "mass appeal," yet it is still out of reach for many people.  Even the Takashi Murakami LV bags I dislike!  It's great for the artists:  big $$$, mass recognition, minimal effort.  It's still fast fashion, a "hip" artist, a luxury leather good, and a designer label.  If I were to spend the same amount of money to personally go to the artist for a commissioned work, how would the results differ?

An added bonus.. New video by Rich Boy from Mobile Alabama!

This guys first album was pretty solid, featuring beats by Polow the Don of Usher and garageband fame? BTW the garageband thing (I think) is bullsh-t but it is kind of funny.  Anyway, in regards to Rich Boy, I am a fan...  If you aren't then no biggie, just don't watch the damn video tiger!  Added as a bonus is a song I liked awhile ago's video by B.O.B. with Rich Boy.

Alabama is up to something musically methinks.

R.I.P. Howard Zinn

We zombies, even though its friday (see Gucci Mane video below ;P) would like to ask for a moment of silence (a bit of a 40 poured out?) or however one would wish to show their respect in honor of Howard Zinn. It is quite unlikely that any of our readers do not know who he is, but if you don't then read up.  Mr. Zinn was a soldier who had first hand experience in learning the horror of war, a great historian and a true genius.  He devoted his academic career to exploring important subjects where he felt too little attention was paid by too many.  He wrote from a historians point of view on the relevance of human and civil rights and had no fear of changing or challenging how events were viewed in honor of those who suffered injustices.  He supported the struggles of working people for proper respect and wages through union organization, participated in and spoke in favor of protests, and much more.  His career was dedicated to increasing the awareness of wrong doings in the name of (if nothing else) bad history not repeating itself.   The power to change things of the people was a subject he revisited many times in his writings and he authored one of the most famous books on American history while doing this.  Howard Zinn was a brilliant man for these reasons and a loud voice in favor of establishing global peace.  He died on Wednesday (January 27th) and will be remembered for not just his famous books, but as a true voice for using common sense, even in tough times, and prioritizing human equality.

what no updates?

Wait we haven't had an update since wednesday? I guess time stood still while we all digested the news on the Ipad.

BTW Ipad probably isn't the best name...

Anyway; here is a link for service that can turn youtube videos into mp3's.

iPad (and other news to rot that brain...)

Angelina is the new Mia Farrow. In a few years Brad Pitt is going to molest Maddox. And in the near future, we'll all realize that iPad is just an amalgamation of the iPhone and the iPod touch, but by the time we realize that, Apple is going to blow our minds again with a new something or other or new version of this or that.

Btw:  Mia Farrow was so beautiful and I love, love, love her "Rosemary's Baby" pixie.
Ok, I'll stop being a hater.  I really, really hope that the iPad starts a revolution in the publishing industry.  I'm sure Apple will tinker with this new thing and make it even cooler.
But I still hate Angelina.  (I'm not team Jennifer).

Peace.

Amazing dancer, sad story.

If you haven't heard her story, please read this article
(or google search Liu Yan).  She is an amazing Chinese dancer who had a tragic accident and lost the ability to move her legs.  Her story did receive some press but perhaps should have gotten more.  We zombies hope that she regains control of her whole body and goes back to being an amazing performer.  Even if she is unable to dance again her dedication, hard work, and talent is an inspiration for everyone. . .

In honor of Snoopy

This post exists for the reasons stated above.  It is in honor of the classic cartoon put up yesterday and some interesting news inspired by it.  If folks were unaware of this there is the western Winnie the Pooh that we all know and love from the U.K. and there is his Russian doppleganger.  There is Winnie the Pooh, AND Vinni Puh...  Seriously... This is crazy but true.  Check out a clip of him below.  Which one do you prefer?  If you already knew this then aren't you special, but I just discovered it recently.

I think they are both cool, but I prefer the one that I grew up with.  Still the animation in the Russian version is well done and during the cold war at least both sides had Winnie, or Vinni.

Another music video dedicated to Haiti

Here's another music video dedicated to the tragedy in Haiti, with Wyclef (Haitian) and Movado. Its a solid song and I've thought Movado was good for the catchy stuff since I was on Suma beach at the reggae dancing contest with my friends. Boy oh boy did the crowd, and the dance "teams" get down to this. Anyway, I'm again happy to see artists supporting the cause in Haiti. Below will be a link to ways to help.

Beagles Gone Wild

Snoopy is one of my all time favorite cartoon/ comic book characters. I love his adventurous personality and how he lounges on the roof of his dog house.

When Charles Schulz was a child, he had a beagle named Spike. The young Schulz wrote to Ripley's Believe it or Not telling them about his beagle who ate light bulbs. That beagle, Spike, is the prototype for my beloved snoopy.

Below is a video of Snoopy getting kicked out of the library and going on a rampage. He gets into a fight with Linus, trying to steal his blanket and then beating him up. Then he goes on to fight Lucy in a boxing match. Hold on to your hats folks! This may be PG, but very few cartoons match the creativity, timelessness, and popularity of Peanuts.

Mother - South Korean Film

I just saw that a South Korean movie, "Mother," will be coming to the big screen in the States.  You can watch it on youtube, but I suggest waiting to see it in the theaters.  If you like Korean movies, the more viewers they get in the States, the more likely you will get to see more on the big screen.  You can see it March 12, 2010.  Mother is a thriller movie by the same guy (Bong Joon-ho) who directed "Memories of Murder" and "The Host."

Synopsis
"Hye-ja is a single mom to 27-year-old Do-joon. Her son is her raison d’être. Though an adult in years, Do-joon is naïve and dependent on his mother, and a constant source of anxiety, often behaving in ways that are foolish or simply dangerous. Walking home alone one night down a nearly empty city street, he encounters a young girl who he follows for a while before she disappears into a dark alley. The next morning, she is found dead in an abandoned building and Do-joon is accused of her murder. Thanks to an inefficient lawyer and an apathetic police force, Do-joon’s case is quickly closed, but his mother refuses to let this be the end of the story. Trusting no one, Hye-ja’s maternal instincts kick into overdrive, and she sets out to find the girl’s killer and prove her son’s innocence."

iTablet?

I don't know what Apple is up to, but I'm pretty damn excited!  On January 27th, Apple is expected to be unveiling their mystery product at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.  PR invites simply say, "See our latest creation."  Some of the rumors include an e-book that will revolutionize publishing, a tablet computer, a touchscreen computer with a tactile keyboard, a device that will end the AT&T exclusivity contract, or simply an iPod touch with a camera.  Hmm....

Yeah... Here's Conan's goodbye speech, we might as well put it up like we are a wannabe TMZ ;)

Truthfully, I am a big Conan fan and he's also my height (some zombies are tall) so I decided to put this up.  I can be cynical, and if you knew me or my f-ked up luck you might be too, and he has convinced me I need to stop being so.  That said I wasn't his target audience as he was aiming at the "younger" people.  Who cares?  I watched this heartfelt goodbye and soon felt as if it was the gospel, then remembered what's going on in Haiti and other incredibly more important things and stopped being a crazy man...  When I had my high school never ends stress over dumb ass social sh-t, and its all dumb, whether I was in high school or not ;) this dude made me laugh whenever I caught him on TV.  Word...

By the way, this player sucks and I am pretty sure this will be taken down pretty soon so enjoy it while you can, if you enjoy it at all.

Help Haiti, get a solid album...

Good work Sr. Clooney.  Young George put together an aid event with a laundry list of celebrities to help raise money for the situation in Haiti, and us zombies applaud that!  We like it when famous people use their fame to help people (instead of buying fancy sh-t, dating each other etc.) and this event was definitely cool in general and the song isn't super cheesy.  Oh, even Stephen Spielberg was answering phones!  Bravo famous people!

"This is a tragedy that reaches across all borders, all boundaries. It demands our attention, our help and our compassion," Mr Clooney stated in a brief introduction.

"The Haitian people need help. They need to know that they are not alone. They need to see that we still care," he added, as millions of donors immediately snarled up the telephone lines. (from this article)

New Sade video and thumbs up recommendation!

This video is pretty cool.  This album should be too and is stirring up quite a buzz (8 out of 10 on pitchfork is pretty good) and not just because its her.  I'm excited to hear it and like this single.  Since its friday and we always put up music videos anyway here's double shot.  The beat is cool too, that's like a bonus.  Although visually, while I like it, it looks like something I've seen before (that movie sucks), or maybe a combo of a couple of them?  Who cares?  Sade is dope.  She can actually sing.

Mahru! The S. Korean A.I. robot. Available sometime in the next ten years?

If you haven't seen this before, I'm proud to inform you that in S. Korea they have developed an A.I. robot named Mahru. It can dance, say hello, and do the dishes (see video one).  More so it is supposed to be for sale within a decade or so.  Needless to say this is pretty amazing.  It was developed here, and I hope it really will be for sale soon enough. I feel like we are well closer to the Jetsons as a planet (video two), and should be properly creeped out by what this may imply when we're old foagies (video three).  After the following videos I threw up a couple of young Mahru just for fun..  Enjoy.

If you've been following the Google x China issue, you may know that the government might not want the public to see things such as porn, instructions for making dangerous weapons, information regarding certain political issues, and most of all:

A few things to ponder..

I hope the folks who are checking out this blog aren't thinking that we've got bored of it, or are becoming lackadaisical.  The truth is very far from that, but alas the next movement of the faster zombies is taking a bit of time.  We greatly appreciate the outpouring of support that we've got and will reward your interest quite thoroughly..  ;)  In this "mean time" (I just quoted myself, deal with it) I will throw up three things. Food Porn

Lately I've been noticing that the most popular blogs are food related.  The term is "food porn."  I get off on it too.  Here's why:

Studio Kitchen.  I like this blog.  Philadelphia based Chef Shola.  I work in a restaurant and this man is highly respected.  I don't know too much about cooking, but much can be appreciated within this blog.  He has a rule list of what makes a good chef hanging up in my employer's manager/ chef office.  I would try and find it for you, but while the blog is aesthetically pleasing, finding this article is not.

Basically, he is a private chef.  He maintains the blog quite well.  Pictures abound.  He is self employed and has a studio atelier type where he does his consulting and food photography.  I find it quite refreshing and brave.  From what I hear, his dinners are amazing and he makes a good living.  I will tell you that chefs are artists.  To me, he embodies an artist, much like a painter- choosing to craft his own masterpieces in his own vision versus mass producing/ selling out.

Check it out.

North Korean Jeans...

As you may know, we are a member of the Korean blog list.  This is because us zombies like the Korean vibe, and one of us is Korean ;P  Of course, we are mostly focused on new stuff from South Korea, for what should be obvious reasons.  Occasionally we do make exceptions though.  This isn't politics and it is pretty damn intriguing to say the least.  This is zombie territory.

There is a new(ish) brand of jeans called Noko Jeans that are made in North Korea, that can be bought by Westerners.  I didn't just mistype that.  I'm not joking.  They are for sale at a shop in Sweden, as the land of Volvo and Ikea has not cut diplomatic ties with the land of the Fatherly Leader.  Although it is more like the son of the fatherly leader now, as he is more famous currently.  It should also be noted that (not surprisingly I suppose) there is a museum dedicated to the brand in Stockholm (dope city!).  Click the links, watch this video and if you are in the US and willing to talk to the OFAC boys then get a pair! That is, if you like them.

Finally some marketing of music that makes progress.. Bravo USB Uzi!

In my typical afternoon facebook browsing (and time wasting) I saw a very interesting link posted by my friend Sean K. (thanks man!).  A hip-hop group from Los Angeles called the Get Busy Committee has made a new album named Uzi Does It, and is releasing it on a USB plug that connects to a toy uzi.  This is plain ol' cool.  It combines the interests of two types of collectors, music (ME ;P) and toys.  In other words, it is a clever and innovative way to release music that gives folks A) thier album B) a USB plug to transport information on that looks cool and C) a toy to remember it by.  All of this of course being tied into a creative cross promotion with a clothing store.

Now, I'm not a fan of firearms, particularly Uzis.  I think assault weapons are pretty much evil but I'm definitely not opening that can of worms.  In fact I've never fired and Uzi, and almost never use other guns except occasionally shooting at targets, but I must say this is pretty darn cool.  I still pay to download albums off of iTunes (regardless of what the music business thinks of it), and collect vinyl then drop it into my computer, so I am their target customer!  I am happy to say that I'd buy albums presented this format too.  In fact I think this is friggin' awesome.  Also, did I mention that cool USB plug devices are already becoming a collectable.  Bravo guys, and again thank you Sean for making me aware of this.  Read more about the album here.

The album/plug/toy.  Dope!

p.s.  This guys stuff is also dope! ;P

Reverend Sun Myung Moon

Have you ever heard of Reverend Moon or the Moonies?  Here is my experience of almost being recruited by them:

A few years ago I was wandering around Penn's campus, when a nice looking pair of college age students approached me.  One male and one female.  As someone who had just finished AmeriCorps, I was still interested in doing volunteer work.  The pair wanted to talk to me about "CARP," a collegiate group who did charity and volunteer work.  Bored and wanting to find new volunteer work, I agreed to go with them into one of Penn's buildings to listen and hear more.  There were a few more people in the room, and a man began to explain what CARP is.  He went on to talk about Reverend Moon.  I suddenly became a little frightened and said I wasn't interested.  I asked, "Reverend Moon, like the Moonies?!"  He politely confirmed and said that they prefer the term "Unificationists."

R.I.P. Teddy Pendergrass

Theodore "Teddy" Pendergrass (1950-2010)

Philly Soul Legend Teddy Pendergrass passed away last night (January 13th) at the age of 59.
Penderrgrass started his career as a drummer but eventually became the lead singer of Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes who signed a deal with Gamble & Huff.
He went on to a solo career during which he won a Grammy award for Joy (pictured above) and he was the first African-American male vocalist to have 5 consecutive platinum records. Teddy created some of the most memorable Soul music the world has ever seen.
In the 1980's he was in an accident that caused his paralyses.  Witnessing their struggles first hand he decided that he had to become an advocate for the physically disabled (learn more about his charity here).
Details on the cause of his death are still sketchy but it is reasonable to conclude that it was due to his recently declining health.

You will be missed.

Online Shopping

Hello Zombietrons!

Obviously, we zombies are interweb addicts.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it!  Therefore, we'd like to share some of our favorite places to shop with you.  Hopefully, we won't come across more photos of people seducing dogs.

In no particular order, with pictures to entice you:
Yes Style - This site has clothing for men and women and its ENDLESS.  A lot of things are pretty darn cheap.  Keep in mind that everything is from different Asian countries and on the smaller side.  Stupid Asians!  jk.  But you can see the size conversions online, so make sure to check.  It's good for dresses, leggings, t-shirts, and other random things.

Haiti...

I'm gonna keep this one short.

You probably know about the devastation in Haiti.  Haiti the only country I know of to have real accounts of zombies,....which is probably an inappropriate thing to say, but hey I am a Zombie and proud of it.

Here is what Wyclef is saying on the subject.  The Fugees member, and solo artist Wyclef is probably the most globally famous Haitian next to Canada's Michaëlle Jean (seriously, if you don't know who she is -namely one of, if not THE most powerful black woman in North America- then Google is your friend) I thought it would be a good idea to put up his thoughts.  Here is a TV news editorial regarding Michaëlle Jean in case you don't feel like Google searching.

If you can,  help, and if you've chosen a different way then those listed, make sure you really are.

We are all human, well, accept for a few zombies here and there. Let's not have our response to this disaster be as slow and poorly equipped as the U.S. and Canada (in regards to getting troops there) were for Katrina.
Its time to show we've learned our lessons, and not be like the zombie below ever again.

p.s. we're faster than that one.

To be or not to be downloading is the question: part 1

To start the year DJ Shadow posted what can only be described as an essay which laid out his stance on the current state of the music industry with particular stress on his disapproval of illegal downloading.
You can read the whole "tirade" here.
Basically Shadow blames what he sees as a decline in the artistic content of the music industry on the rise of illegal downloads. He concludes that a lack of financial incentive discourages many talented people from putting in the time and effort it takes to make it in the music industry, especially people who would be inclined to make ground breaking material. This gives rise to an overwhelming amount of mediocracy, as artists who play it safe are the only ones who can succeed in this environment.
He goes on to say that making music takes time and money and his art has value.

"I can donate a large sum of money to charity and not think twice, but I won’t give my art away. I’d rather sell it to 100 people who value it as I do than give it away to 1000 who could care less. That’s MY choice."

When Shadow posted those words on his website he set off a particularly dramatic reaction on the internet. The most notable negative reaction was posted by Urb.
And a notable positive reaction was posted on The Daily Swarm.
I found both articles to be insightful and good to read, but I realized one of our sponsors is involved in the music industry. So why not ask him a few questions on the subject.

So let me introduce to you KnowSomething's DJ D-Mass. D-Mass is a DJ based out of Ottawa Canada. He runs Know Something which started as a modest artist consultation business and has recently become a modest Record "label". He has worked as a researcher for Big Meteor Publishing (the makers of The Indie Music Bible)  he's opened for people like KRS-1, Grand Master Flash, DJ Babu etc. And produced a bunch of music for a bunch of artists you've never heard of, but if you had heard of them you would probably like them.

Warm Fuzzies

I was looking online for different clothing sites and found a new site.  They carried brands and lables I like, but I was deeply disturbed by their editorial.  Here's why:

Umm, basically it's a series of the same model posing different ways with the dog.  Doggy style gets literal.  Here's another disturbing one:

Okay, I'm all about controversy and being provocative, but this is just wrong.  Growing up hearing about how Asians eat dog and getting berated about it...well, what is this sh*t?!  It's true, sometimes Koreans eat dog and so do Vietnamese, but I'd rather eat a dog then a dog "eat" me.  Well, you never know till you try.  And did anyone call PETA yet?!  ㅎ__ㅎ

Yourboyhood

I'm very excited to present our first interview with Hong Sukwoo of yourboyhood. As time progresses we will interview various interesting people asking them 5 random questions. Sukwoo is a street fashion photographer in Seoul, Korea. But he is more then that. For one, he's super talented and very active in the whole Seoul fashion/ culture movement.

You can read more about him and see his photos mostly at yourboyhood.  But also visit:
The interview:

Originality? Plagerism? Is "Art" that is based on Art, Art? aka everybody steal...

The idea for this post came to me while I was watching a repeat of Fashion TV late at night while talking to another Zombie online.
I noticed that the "new" styles looked similar to fashions created by the late Coco Chanel. This got me thinking about an old quote attributed to Picasso. More on Picasso's quote later,  first let me share with you this video/slideshow I found on Coco Chanel, arguably the mother of modern women's fashion.
