New Job, New endeavors

After being a waitress for over a decade, I'm trying out a new gig.  I'll be working as a sales associate at one of my favorite places to shop ever.  I'm extremely nervous about working in such a tempting environment.  I'm also helping style That Girl Em for her weekly party, Tiger Beats.  I like how I'm dressing her, but eventually I'd like to take some more risks.  So here's a few pics:

Tove Jansson and Per Emanuelsson chain shoes.  I would dress Em in these shoes with a cutout one piece in a neon color.  Of course either she or her feet would hate me after!

That Girl Em in a detachable pearl and bow necklace from yesstyle.com, Kenneth Jay Lane necklace, J Crew bandeau swimsuit top, Topshop tank, her own shoes, leggings, and shorts

some random knee high socks I had, pink Chuck's that you can't see (her own), hello kitty tank top from of all places Hot Topic LOL!, and an urban outfitters faux leather skirt

Dakota...Cherie...Taylor...The Runaways

I haven't seen the Runaways yet, but am pretty weirded out by Dakota Fanning growing up.  I'm wondering if she'll be a lesbonic Jodie Foster type, drug addict, train wreck, arrested, or whatnot.  Any other bets are welcome.  I think she might end up a lesbonic Jodie Foster type...seriously.  I do think that right now she looks like a wholesome tween- maybe too wholesome looking for the Runaways film.  I think Taylor Momsen would have been a better choice, but lately she's annoying me on Gossip Girl too much, so hahaha.  Seriously though, Taylor has a band and likes that whole rock n roll thing.  Maybe the role would have been too similar to the rebellious Jenny Humphrey character she plays...or her own real life persona.  Such as saying crude things and smoking a bunch of cigarettes at sweet 16.  Anyhoo, does anyone remember when people were counting down the days of the Olsen Twins turning "of age"?  I think some perverts are probably going to do the same thing to Dakota Fanning as she gets older.  Anyways here are some pics of Dakota, Cherie, and Taylor...

Also, I am pretty annoyed by all the "Alice in Wonderland" inspired fashion.  Can we get some "Runaways" inspired fashion instead?!  That would be fun...thx.

Rodarte inspired by Asian horror genre

I guess I was living under a rock or something, but I had no idea that Rodarte drew inspiration from Asian horror flicks.  Specifically Japanese AND Korean flicks!  Watch the following video to learn a bit more about Rodarte and see if you can spot the poster for the Korean movie, "Tale of Two Sisters."  Very cool!  I definitely like their translation of horror to fashion.

Ready for Spring

Flower Shower...

As much as I try to dress bright and colorful for the winter, I usually end up with my staple grays and blacks.  I forced myself to not buy another pair of black boots this winter.  I ended up with gray boots instead!  Well spring is in the air, so I'll start rocking florals.  I love florals because they can be toughened up- whether it's a leather jacket or motorcycle boots- it always looks fresh.  Just like Spring!  Florals are also very economical.  Try vintage and thrift shopping for florals and you'll find out why!  Experiment with different floral looks.  You can do all sorts of looks:  edgy, feminine, cowboy, mod, boho, glam.  Email your favorite floral looks to ultrafastzombie@gmail.com!

Erin Wasson is annoying

Every once in a while, I'll come across a magazine or newspaper article declaring some girl an "it girl."  The fashion industry, other media, and bloggers go nuts and everyone agrees that so and so is the next big thing.  For one, I can't stand the term "it girl.'  I've noticed it girls don't usually do anything- well they do several projects, such as being an ex-model, socialite, fashion designer, date someone famous, star in a music video or some artsy obscure film, or have a band.  But mostly they don't do anything all that important.  The sheep follow and so forth.  So here is the first installment of shIT girls.  One of my all time favorites, Erin Wasson.

Erin Wasson was a successful model, worked with renowned photographers, and collaborated with fashion designer Alexander Wang.  She also starred in some kind of promotional video for Justin Timberlake's clothing line.  Eventually, she parted ways with Wang and started her own fashion line.

I think she tries too hard.  She reminds me of the type of girl who was "popular in high school" and then went to college and discovered herself thus creating a new persona.  In the above youtube video, my friend and I took shots every time she said "like" and then blacked out.

2NE1 Style

I like 2NE1's style.  It's pretty kooky.  Very fun and colorful.  Below is an interview with their stylists from Nylon Magazine:

Eye tape, vanity, makeup and more

We recently posted some before and after photos of Korean plastic surgery.  Another beauty trend in Asia is eye tape or eye glue.  Essentially, many Asians have what is called a monolid.  Here's an example.

Some women choose to get plastic surgery to have the crease.  Many people mistake it for a wish to look more Caucasian or a desire to be more Westernized.  Although some women may desire this, others believe: that old age causes saggy eyelids, monolids make it harder to put on makeup (eyeliner disappears on my monolid), or somehow it just seems better aesthetically.  Other women may be going for what's called the "ullzang" look.  Ulzzang is basically a term to describe a kind of style that is mostly made up of freakishly large anime eyes, funky hairstyles, and cutesy poses and faces.  In addition to eye tape, some women also use circle lenses.  The retina is basically way larger then the normal size.

Coco Rocha is Fat?

Coco Rocha

The New York Times just ran an article titled "A Model's Prospects:  Slim and None."  The focus of this article was on both Coco Rocha and the modeling industry's obsession with thinness.  First off, I applaud Coco and the NYTimes for bringing up this problem, but I felt that the article was watered down.  The author, Guy Trebay, basically downplays Rocha's career alluding it to being equivalent to resume "paragraphs."  For one, she started her career in 2004 which puts her at a current and very successful 6 years.  Rocha is one of Vogue's darlings that they correctly predicted to be one of "The World's Next Top Models."  She's landed numerous exclusive covers, advertisements, and editorials and walked for some of the industry's top names (and quite a few as the opener).  Currently, Rocha is a correspondent for Modelina.com, dabbling with her own clothing line Rococo, as well as hosts Fashion Week TV.  Personally, I love her.  I think it's great that she isn't limiting herself to modeling.  We Zombies also like that she's Canadian and we enjoy her blog.

Stussy - J Dilla Documentary & T-shirts

To commemorate the "Beats, Rhymes & Life" of the late J Dilla [or Jay Dee as he was known on my personal preference of his music] Stussy are hosting "Dilla Day" in their North American stores tomorrow, here's the first of a three part documentary on Detroits legendary Hip Hop producer.

You've seen the movie, now cop one for yourself.

Plastic Surgery in Korea: Before and After

While I don't endorse plastic surgery, I think the before and after pictures are fun to look at.  Here are a few magazine scans of ads from a Korean magazine.

Other ways twitter ruins society...

In lieu of the passing of Alexander McQueen, newspapers and blogs have been posting up the deceased designer's last tweets.  Another newspaper claims Kate Moss is in grief based on her tweets.  As any blog or media, we did announce McQueen's passing.  Yet we refuse to post his twitters.  Although we did not know McQueen personally, we urge the media to let his friends and loved ones mourn quietly.  And without the scrutiny and privacy invasion of dissecting their twitter accounts, blogs, etc.

Upon the passing of Korean supermodel Daul Kim, her blog was pilfered by the media, only to later be closed to the public.

I will not claim to understand the phenomenon of celebrity, but between the money and fame, their is/ was a real person.

Let's honor their creativity and impact with a moment of silence.

Crumbville Times Sunday Edition...

Every Sunday..  We hope you like it.

Andre Saraiva x Fendi

Fendi commissioned Parisian graffiti artist, Andre Saraiva, to design some bags.  Found this image at Vogue Korea.  It's some fun stuff for Art Basel from my understanding.  It was part limited edition, part exhibition part interactive.  Basically Andre has done things for Louis Vuitton down to Belvedere Vodka.  Remember, the Louis Vuitton and Stephen Sprouse collabo?

I guess Fendi is following the lead and jumping on the LV bandwagon of hiring graffiti artists.  LV is the same house that hired Kanye West to design shit too. (Keep in mind that Marc Jacobs is the creative director for LV).

I wonder what these Fendi bags went for, but if Andre is a special artist to you I suppose it would be worth it.  As far as the Stephen Sprouse stuff, I look at it now and am unimpressed.  Who is this really for?  Rich people?  Celebrities?  It has this "mass appeal," yet it is still out of reach for many people.  Even the Takashi Murakami LV bags I dislike!  It's great for the artists:  big $$$, mass recognition, minimal effort.  It's still fast fashion, a "hip" artist, a luxury leather good, and a designer label.  If I were to spend the same amount of money to personally go to the artist for a commissioned work, how would the results differ?

I found these pictures of Beyonce modeling for a Japanese fashion company (Samantha Thavasa) on A little bit of eki.  Enjoy.
