Throwback Friday: Get well soon Guru

This weeks Throwback Friday, we pay homage to one of the greatest Hip Hop groups of all time Gangstarr. The D.J./M.C. pairing of DJ Premier and Keith E.E [Guru] shaped the sound of Hip Hop in the 90's kicking off the jazz sampling age with 1990's "Jazz Thing" taken from the soundtrack to Spike Lee's "Mo Better Blues". They continued to bring the "Boom Bap" formulating what is now known as the archetypal "New York Sound" right up to the no nonsense of their last album [to date] "The Ownerz" 2003.
This video is the classic "Words I Manifest" taken from their first album, 1989's "No More Mr Nice Guy".........

Our thoughts go out to Guru and wish him a speedy recovery, as one of my fellow Zombies can tell you, comas ain't no joke. For the latest updates on Guru's condition check D.J. Premiers Blog.
Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal we salute you!

Article from the BBC on the poster advertising Massive Attack's new album being rejected by TFL [Transport for London] for looking too much like grafitti.

Stussy - J Dilla Documentary & T-shirts

To commemorate the "Beats, Rhymes & Life" of the late J Dilla [or Jay Dee as he was known on my personal preference of his music] Stussy are hosting "Dilla Day" in their North American stores tomorrow, here's the first of a three part documentary on Detroits legendary Hip Hop producer.

You've seen the movie, now cop one for yourself.

Banksy movie trailer music

For those that haven't seen it yet here's the dope trailer to Banksy's forthcoming movie "Exit Through The Gift Shop" billed as "The first street art disaster movie". All of us at Crumbville can't wait for this to drop.

"What's that bangin' beat" i hear, well it's the instrumental version of The Creators feat. Phil Da Agony "Kronkite" from the U.K. production duo's 2000 album "The Weight". Game tight indeed.

Big shout to Si Spex my mentor on the beats and how to fit as much on your plate at a Chinese buffet....
"forget noodles and rice, go for the meat and gravy" good advice for any beat maker.

Help Haiti, get a solid album...

Good work Sr. Clooney.  Young George put together an aid event with a laundry list of celebrities to help raise money for the situation in Haiti, and us zombies applaud that!  We like it when famous people use their fame to help people (instead of buying fancy sh-t, dating each other etc.) and this event was definitely cool in general and the song isn't super cheesy.  Oh, even Stephen Spielberg was answering phones!  Bravo famous people!

"This is a tragedy that reaches across all borders, all boundaries. It demands our attention, our help and our compassion," Mr Clooney stated in a brief introduction.

"The Haitian people need help. They need to know that they are not alone. They need to see that we still care," he added, as millions of donors immediately snarled up the telephone lines. (from this article)

Click here and buy it folks... I'd say that's the right thing to do, wouldn't you?

New Sade video and thumbs up recommendation!

This video is pretty cool.  This album should be too and is stirring up quite a buzz (8 out of 10 on pitchfork is pretty good) and not just because its her.  I'm excited to hear it and like this single.  Since its friday and we always put up music videos anyway here's double shot.  The beat is cool too, that's like a bonus.  Although visually, while I like it, it looks like something I've seen before (that movie sucks), or maybe a combo of a couple of them?  Who cares?  Sade is dope.  She can actually sing.

Mary Jane

Another cartoon hip hop mash up devoted to good ol' Mary Jane. This one is pretty sharp too.  To see the last one we put up then zombie time travel here.. This one was done by an underground artist from Philadelphia and is pretty sharp to say the least.  Which one is better?  Who cares, they are both cool.

Enjoy!

peace Philly!

2 Random tracks from my MP3 player

Here are two Random artists that you should have on your MP3 player already...
If you don't, then go download them immediately and pretend like you've known who they are for the last two years...

The first one is easy, Dances With White Girls; born and raised in Philly, lives in Brooklyn NY
and he makes banging tracks on an old beat up laptop.

Scion Radio 17: Dances With White Girls Interview from Scion A/V on Vimeo.

Let's see what the next random track on this thing is....
Shinichi Osawa...he practically is the one man Japanese reaction to this whole new Electro thing so you already know who he is...(if not just pretend like you do)

Meh, these tracks are too easy...next time I am going to go deeper in the vaults....
