Street Photos of Osaka 2007

In honor of our up-coming interview with a somewhat famous Asian street photographer (no names yet, ya'll will need to guess), I've decided to throw up a few pictures from Osaka.  Most folks think of Osaka as the background for "Black Rain" (see below) in which Dotumbori is empty of people and full of bike gangs, which is more like science fiction.  The movie is also arguably racist too.

Osaka is either that or the money capital of historic Japan.  That is, if anyone in Europe or my side of the pacific thinks about Osaka much.  Osaka is both of those things.  It is also a lot more.  It is a gritty and tough Japanese city that is also gorgeous.  It IS more gigantic then every city in North America (saving Mexico City, and New York) with much higher population density, and is certainly NOT some grumpy little sister of Tokyo.  I'd argue it beats Tokyo in just about every category from food to culture, not to mention the greatest baseball team besides the Phillies ;P  Go Tigers!!!!  Its also tough as sh-t for some folks, the film got that right, although seriously exaggerated.  I'm still a fan.

But then again I'm biased. Check out a few of my pics.  More tomorrow.

Click here for a few more.. Like 207 more!  Slowly but surely they will all have names and comments.  If you want to browse icons of our pictures, from Osaka, and soon everywhere we zombify we have a link to our flick photostream at the bottom of the blog.  Feel free to leave us some comments.

If Osaka isn't on your radar, it should be.  While us zombies have a focus on S. Korea currently due to our contributors, we also have zombies in Japan.  Its a pretty safe bet that there will be posts and more pictures from all over Nippon.  Stay tuned.

Peace,
Schmootzie
